More Headlines from the Anti-gun Propaganda Machine

Okay -- look at these headlines, all drawn from the Yahoo news site: News Stories
- 35 hurt in Indiana factory shooting - BBC (Dec 6, 2001)
- 35 Feared Shot At Indiana Factory - WBBM - Chicago (Dec 6, 2001)
- Police search for gunman after 'mass shooting' - CNN (Dec 6, 2001)
- Up to 35 People Shot at Indiana Factory - AP (Dec 6, 2001)
These headlines were issued shortly after the incident began. Look at how they characterized the event before the journalists even knew what had happened.
According to news stories issued after the event was over, one killer shot several co-workers in a factory in Indiana, wounding six and killing one, and then killed himself.
What about the "35 hurt", or the "up to 35 people shot"?
The "35" figure came from an estimate of the number of employees in the building at the time the killer was present. Nobody had *any factual basis* for saying that there were 35 hurt, injured or shot, or even shot at.
Readers were intentionally disinformed. There is no other explanation for these headlines, other than that the writers sought to hype "another mass shooting" and feed the anti-gun propaganda machine.
A truthful headline would have said: "Shooter fires at employees in factory." That is all the reporters knew at the time they issued their early stories.
[We'll bet no news source printed a headline from our point of view, such as: "Attacker corners disarmed workers in factory."]
The disinformation did not flow from only one source. AP, BBC, WBBM, Reuters, and CNN all ran similar inflammatory and misleading headlines on this story.
Americans are immersed in news delivered by agencies like these. It is all we can do to fight back, to try to counter the disinformation and propaganda.
We can't try to refute every bogus headline or biased story.
But we can reach the hearts and minds of Americans, so that more of our fellow citizens can detect and resist the anti-gun propaganda.
