WI SHOOTING BECOMES PROHIBITIONIST PROPAGANDA
The recent tragedy in Wisconsin, in which a man killed six other hunters with an SKS semi-automatic rifle, is already being used to make political hay. The Violence Policy Center has issued a press release with the screaming headline, "Wisconsin Hunter Murders Show Need For Effective Assault Weapons Ban - Armed Hunters No Match For SKS Assault Rifle". VPC, of course, has never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
In committing this atrocity, Chai Vang has regrettably laid the groundwork to bring back the debate on so-called "assault weapons". The media is having a field day with it and - as the VPC release shows - the gun-prohibitionists will promote this incident at every opportunity. At the very least, it will pit hunters against 2nd Amendment advocates.
Our best defense against the inevitable knee-jerk reaction to this tragedy is our feared documentary Innocents Betrayed. Every time a gun prohibitionist or a gun owner with weak knees brings up the Wisconsin shooting, show them the film ... and show them what happens when the people don't have "assault weapons" and the government does.
