America for Sale
For years economists have been warning us that the US economy is a house of cards in a very breezy wind. This view has been reinforced by Professor Laurence Kotlifkoff in a recently published paper. Says Kotlifkoff, "the US government is, indeed, bankrupt, insofar as it will be unable to pay ...current and future generations to whom it has ... promised future net payments of various kinds." Some localities have hit on a new method to generate revenue. Roads and bridges -- built by US taxpayers -- are being sold or leased to foreign companies. An Australian-Spanish partnership recently paid $3.8 billion to lease the Indiana Toll Road, and another Australian company bought a 99-year lease on Virginia's Pocohontas Parkway. As disturbing as this is, you may be asking yourself what it has to do with gun owners. The answer is, maybe more than you think. For example, if foreign companies "own" American roads, can they forbid you from traveling with firearms on them?
With the recent revelations that the Bush Administration is pushing for a "North American Union" -- essentially removing borders between the US, Mexico, and Canada ( http://www.humaneventsonline.com/article.php?id=15623 ) -- the outlook seems grim.
Foreign interests will control more and more "public" infrastructure in the US. The more that they control, the more power they will wield in influencing US policy, both foreign and domestic. And foreign interests have made it very clear in the past that they don't like firearms in the hands of US citizens ( http://www.jpfo.org/alerts/alert20060712.htm ).
More importantly, all of these entities will want a police force to enforce their new laws. That's where the BATFE comes in. And while we can't stop a foreign company from buying a bridge or leasing a road, we _can_ take steps to abolish the BATFE before foreign influences become too powerful.
