Mel Gibson's recent DUI arrest during which he spewed anti-Semitic
remarks has raised massive outrage in Hollywood and the media.
Gibson, known for his roles in such movies as _The Patriot_
and _What Women Want_, has in fact become the poster
child for Political Correctness. So much for Hollywood's love
affair with free speech.
Welcome to the Gray Zone, Mel.(1) Toe the party line, and heaven
help you if you have "unapproved" thoughts. Friends,
family, and associates will quickly distance themselves from
you and even stab you in the back if there's something in it
for them.
Sadly, many of those screaming about Gibson's rantings are
merely "professional victims," opportunistically taking
advantage of the situation in an effort to keep the cash registers
ringing for themselves and their organizations.
Jackie Mason (yes, that Jackie Mason) takes the ADL to task
in a recent Newsmax article.(2) Says the comedian about Gibson's
attackers:
Thank you, Jackie.
While we at JPFO disagree vehemently with the comments attributed
to Gibson, the fact remains that we support his right to say
it. This is a Bill of Rights Culture at work, where everyone
has a right to their opinion ... just as we have a right to
disagree with it.
In fact, Gibson may wish to look at the silver lining of this
particular cloud. For one, he can use this as a platform to
speak out against bigotry. It would be rather difficult for
opportunists like Foxman to continue their onslaught under such
circumstances.
More importantly, however, this is the perfect opportunity
for Gibson to promote the Bill of Rights -- ALL of the Bill
of Rights, for ALL citizens. With his celebrity status, people
will listen to him and hopefully realize that the Bill of Rights
isn't a buffet: you can't just pick and choose which rights
you want to "allow" while stifling the rest.
Ironically, the Bill of Rights which confirms Gibson's right
of free speech was -- as we all know -- written(3) after America
defeated the British in the Revolutionary War. A war that was
financed to a large degree by merchant, banker, and "Sons
of Liberty" member Haym Solomon ... a Jew.(4)
